About Bristol

Bristol is a cosmopolitan city in the South of England and is an extremely popular place to live.  Less than two hours away by train from London, Bristol is the focal point of the South West and is well known for its lively and vibrant atmosphere.

From our pupils’ perspective, there is so much to see and experience. Bristol was named a finalist for the 2008 European Capital of Culture and its easy to see why. A year-round calendar of events and festivals, rich theatrical and music culture, modern shopping centres and an array of museums and fine restaurants are right on our doorstep. Boasting two of the largest universities in the country, the city is well known for learning and academic achievement and Badminton girls benefit from attending university lectures and taking part in industry-run competitions as well as participating in events run by the local business community for young people.

The countryside around the city is also some of the most beautiful in the UK.  Bristol is only half an hour from the Mendip Hills, half an hour from Bath, within easy access of lakes, a short drive to the Welsh mountains and only a couple of hours from the white, sandy beaches and blue waters of Devon and Cornwall.

Badminton School is based in the heart of Bristol, next to an area called Durdham Downs – a 220 acre area of grassy parkland owned by the people of Bristol which is used for a variety of sports, picnics and summer festivals and events.  Despite having easy access to the city centre, Badminton is very private and secure – its site circled by a historic stone wall.  Badminton girls can therefore enjoy the best of both worlds – a safe and secure place to live, right in the heart of a vibrant, university city.

Travelling to Bristol

Bristol is accessible via a number of different transport routes. Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway train stations are equidistant from Badminton and are both mainline stations with regular services to London Paddington and elsewhere in the country. There are also scheduled coach links to most of the UK's major cities from Bristol's Bus and Coach Station.

Bristol International Airport is 8 miles south of the city and a 30 minute taxi ride from Badminton with regular flights to Europe, America and further afield. The London airports are easily accessible via road, rail or coach.

The city is well connected by road with the M4 connecting Bristol to London and the East, the M5 to the Southwest and the North. London is less than a two hour drive from Badminton.
