Badminton School

Physical Education

At Badminton, we provide an inclusive programme of sport and exercise in a safe learning environment. We work to build confidence, team spirit and an understanding of fair play for all.

Many pupils will go on to excel and to compete at the highest levels. All those at Badminton develop a positive outlook on their health and fitness and the sense of physical wellbeing that comes from the enjoyment of sport and exercise.

Badminton has many facilities on site that include:

  • A Full-Size Hockey Astro Pitch
  • Netball Courts
  • Tennis Courts
  • Basketball Courts
  • Gym
  • Fitness Centre
  • Swimming Pool

Our new Sports Centre has been in use for several years now and the girls are loving using the new facilities.

A full-time tennis coach is available to give individual or group lessons and we have an experienced team of part-time coaches to support curricular and co-curricular sport. Sports clubs are offered in the early mornings and at lunchtimes and teatimes for specific age groups and we offer regular fixtures both home and away. We encourage the girls to join local clubs wherever possible to help develop their individual skills and game play. The Department has many links with local clubs and county teams and girls attend county trials where appropriate.

In Years 7-9 Games lessons focus on the skills and understanding of the more traditional sports such as hockey, netball and rounders. In PE we cover swimming, gymnastics, athletics and tennis. Pupils can also get involved in an extensive range of co-curricular activities such as fencing, judo, cross fit, basketball, football and badminton. There is a programme of fixtures for after-school and Saturday matches and tournaments.

GCSE

The GCSE PE specification is 60% theory and 40% practically assessed. The theory covers topics such as:

  • Applied Anatomy & Physiology
  • Movement Analysis
  • Physical Training
  • Sports Psychology

The practical assessment is on three different activities including one team and one individually-based sport. If you love sport then this is the right choice for you and the knowledge, skills and practical experience you gain can lead on to further study and a wide variety of careers.

Alongside the GCSE curriculum, we offer a popular Sports Leaders Programme and host an annual Sports Awards Evening to recognise achievement and participation in sport and exercise at all levels.
