Pupils from Years 9, 10 and the Sixth Form attended an online Creative Industries seminar on Monday. The Bristol Education Partnership hosted the virtual event, which Badminton is very proud to be a part of.
We listened to five professionals from different creative industries talk about their jobs in architecture, graphic design, contemporary art and film making. The professionals shared with us how so many people can be involved in creative projects, like an exhibition. We listened to the highs and lows of their careers and they shared with us their top tips for becoming active in the community is to start a business and create a portfolio.
I enjoyed learning about the connections between studying art and how it can relate to other industries. My favourite part of the morning was definitely being able to see different artwork. We were given a virtual tour of the current exhibitions on display at The Arnolfini Gallery, a photography exhibition by Hassan Hajjaj and portrait paintings by Chantal Joffe.
Joffe’s work varied in scale, some on a really small canvas’ and others on much larger canvas’. Her style was quick and expressed lots of emotion. I really loved seeing it and I hope I can go and see it in the actual gallery during Half Term. Tim Knowles, a contemporary artist, shared some images of his own artwork and explained his creative processes.
One of my favourite presentations was about the film industry, and how in making films, there are so many art related decisions and processes to be considered. I would like to potentially explore a career relating to film and look forward to attending more of these online seminars in the future!
