Creative Arts Outreach Workshop

The Creative Arts Team welcomed prospective Year 7 girls in a Saturday morning online workshop, using Art and Drama to bring the tale of Anne Bonny and Blackbeard to life. Over the course of the morning everyone created a cast of puppets to animate the story of these famous pirates.

As you know, Bristol has a rich history of pirates and buccaneers, and this seemed a fitting theme for our workshop. It was great to see how the girls creatively used their resource packs to show Ann and Blackbeard finally burying the hatchet to find treasure together, watched over by Wally the Whale and Gully the Seagull.

Miss Thomas demonstrated puppet making techniques and it was lovely to watch everyone in action, via their webcams, enthusiastically making their own versions. Mr Chilcott introduced the storytelling element of the workshop, throwing in a good helping of piratical sayings, phrases, and language. The workshop closed with the sharing of such enthusiastically made outcomes and performances, ably assisted by pressganged household members.

We had such positive feedback from those involved, the following comments reflect how much the girls appreciated being involved.

“Thank you so much - I had a great time me hearties!” - Sairah

“Natalia really enjoyed the morning. Thank you very much for all those involved in organising this event.”

In September, on joining Year 7, we look forward to reuniting the girls with Blackbeard and Bonny’s sidekicks Wally and Gully!
