Badminton School

Armed Forces Families

Badminton School welcomes pupils from families in the Armed Forces and offers a warm, kind, “home from home” environment for girls whose parents are traveling, living or working abroad. Dr Ryder, our Deputy Head (Pastoral), will tell you more...

Why Badminton?

We understand the importance of providing excellent pastoral care and being a small school, we are a close-knit community where everyone knows everyone. The welfare of the girls is at the heart of everything we do.

Here are just a few reasons to choose Badminton if you are a military family:

  • Our Boarding Houses

We have three Boarding Houses and each one is staffed by a team of dedicated House staff, who understand the needs of the different age groups. The Housemistress, Deputy Housemistress and Resident Tutors are experts in recognising the needs of the girls and all live in the House to provide dedicated support in a family environment. Learn more about the individual Boarding Houses.

  • Weekend Activities

Weekends for our Boarders are packed with activities and opportunities to have fun and relax, both inside and outside of School. These include a variety of trips as well as sport, gardening, cooking & baking, arts & crafts, celebrating birthdays and festivals; there is always plenty going on to choose from. Exeat weekends are optional for the girls; they can choose to either stay in House or go home or to their guardian.

  • Keeping in touch with family

Communication with parents is easy and is encouraged from all perspectives. Our location, just minutes from the centre of Bristol with very easy access to both the M5 and M4 motorways, as well as Bristol International Airport and excellent train links, means visiting and return trips home is straightforward.

Fee discount for families of HM Armed Forces

We provide a fee discount to the daughters of military families who receive Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) funding, which caps the full boarding/tuition fees so that the parental contribution remains 10% of the total net fee payable (after the Armed Forces discount).

HM Armed Forces personnel who are not in receipt of the CEA are welcome to apply for a means-tested bursary.

Our Admissions Team are on hand and are very happy to offer support and answer any questions you may have about our admissions process. We encourage all prospective parents to step through the gates and visit us, either for a private visit or for one of our Open Mornings, to truly experience Badminton for yourself and find where we can take your daughter.

Parent Testimonial

My daughter has become more independent and her confidence has grown significantly.

Our daughter started boarding at Badminton in September 2021 in Year 9. Since her arrival, we have noticed her significantly grow and develop, not just academically, but in all areas e.g. sports, music and life skills. We have also noticed a change in her personality and her attitude: she is more confident and responsible and she has been a great role model to her sister, who will be joining her as a boarder next year.
