Celeste’s Netball Success

Over the past two weeks I have been doing Under 14 Team Bath Regional Netball Trials. I really enjoyed it because there were around 70 girls and only around 15-20 spots available for successful trialists. It was competitive, and we all had to write numbers with permanent markers on our arms and legs so we could be identified - mine was number 11.

As soon as we got to the venue, we had to line up outside and because of COVID-19 constraints we had to walk in groups of three at a time so it took quite a while just to get into the university. Once we were in, we got separated into two different groups, on two different courts ready for the trials.

We played for two hours with a five-minute break in the middle. There were around ten selectors wandering around the courts with clipboards watching the matches.

There were two weeks of trials - after the first week there was a cut of around 20 people, it was quite scary not knowing whether I was going to be selected to come back or not. I got the news that I had made the cut for the second trial and I was so happy!

There was so much more pressure at the second trial to perform and more selectors watching the matches. I knew it was the final push to get in so had to work hard, and I was desperate to be selected and had made many sacrifices to get this far. I missed friends’ sleepovers and a hurdles competition, so I had to make it worth it so gave it my absolute all! I then found out I had been selected and it means the world to me.

I am so happy that I made it and we will now be travelling all over England playing topflight netball against some of the best teams within our age group! Training is every Tuesday from 4.00pm - 6.00pm, and I am so excited because some weeks we get to train alongside the Senior Super League Team who are playing on the court next to us! I cannot wait get to started!
