Pupils were mesmerised walking into the gorgeous Creative Arts Centre.

Amani, Year 10 said “I really liked the unique media for some of the work. It was not only beautiful, but some were a political statement.”

The Year 9 room had walls plastered with detailed oil pastel Arcimboldo works and Paper Mache Gargoyles. The finished work commanded the space; a lot of hard work and thought had gone into the large-scale pieces. An exciting gargoyle trail where pupils could witness all the fantastic work looking for the gargoyles placed around the School.

Mrs Tear, Headmistress, said “I am already feeling competitive for the gargoyle trail!”

There was a wide range of work from textiles and jewellery to huge detailed paintings. Year 8 created work which was inspired by alumna Emma Stonex, our fantastic speaker at the School Meeting this morning. They created sea drawings using the features of the front cover of ‘The Lamplighters’, Emma’s latest novel, and made the corridor vibrant with a gust of salty sea air.

Ms. Clothier, Art Teacher mentioned “I was most impressed by our Upper Sixth students that kept going through lockdown. They kept their spirits up and developed to produce brilliant results.”

Lower Sixth hand painted large vegetables in the style of Georgina Luck, a professional illustrator that visited the Art Department virtually this year, and displayed their prowess and skill being in the older Year Groups.

Georgina, Year 9 said “It’s interesting to see the development of everyone's work, looking at sketch books and the finished results. The process is fascinating.”

I personally loved the GCSE work for its colour and personality. I felt like I was walking through people's memories and emotions, and they were beautiful!

Christina, Year 9
