Entrepreneurship with J6 and Mrs Tear

Head Junior School

On Tuesday, half of J6 were invited to have a lesson on Entrepreneurship with our Headmistress, Mrs Tear. She taught us how to promote your business and convince people to buy your product.

Entrepreneurship is when someone sets up a business in the hope of profit. But there are many things you must think about before starting, such as the advertising, quality of the product, and if you think people will buy it.

When advertising and marketing your product, you must appeal to what the customers want rather than what you believe they may want. You should ask potential customers questions like, what would you specifically use the product for, or, is there something you dislike about the product?

Mrs Tear asked us to design a wallet that suited us, then we interviewed our partner to see if we could change our design according to what our partner wanted. We then checked again that it was what our partner wanted and do a final sketch. Finally, we made a little 3D model for our partner of their chosen design.

I learnt a lot from Mrs Tear’s talk. I learnt that if you want to advertise a new product, you should not make the person feel bad about a product, instead, you give them your honest opinion in the nicest way possible.

I really enjoyed catching up with J6 and seeing them unleash their ideas, even their inner entrepreneur! The skill they showed in listening and responding to others was impressive; they all captured the essence of their partners’ needs and wants and began to understand why (even if they did not always agree!). Their swift three-dimensional modelling of the wallets they designed was impressive and made for quite an eye-catching collection!
