Fabulae Mirabiles!

Junior School Classics & Modern Foreign Languages

J3 and J4 pupils have been avidly learning lines, preparing imaginative costumes and getting thoroughly into character as Romans, heroes, monsters and assorted animals in readiness for filming the annual Latin plays.

One group are retelling the story of Ulixes (more commonly known as Odysseus) and his dramatic run-in with a man-eating Cyclops: this was a story that the girls explored during lockdown, enjoying the wiliness of the main character as he plans his ingenious escape. The second group are bringing to life the characters in our much-loved Minimus textbook: it is Iulius’ birthday, only no one is keeping an eye on his mischievous younger brother, the family cat and the roasted peacock that is intended for the dinner table…

The girls have gained a huge sense of achievement from learning their lines (in Latin, no less!) and enacting these stories, and are greatly looking forward to viewing each other’s plays before the end of Term. Well done, J3 and J4 - it is wonderful to see the Roman world brought to life with such enthusiasm and fluency!
